The Guyana Pink Toe Tarantula (Avicularia avicularia) is a beautiful arboreal (tree-dwelling) tarantula native to tropical forests in northern South America. Unlike terrestrial species such as curly hairs, pink toes spend most of their time off the ground.
Enclosure
Sub-Adult:
- 12” × 12” × 18” enclosure or larger
Setup
- Plenty of vertical climbing space
- Large cork bark tube positioned vertically
- Artificial or live plants for cover
- Cross ventilation is extremely important
- Small water dish attached low in the enclosure
Substrate
- 2–3 inches of:
- Coconut fiber
- ReptiSoil
- Organic topsoil mix
The substrate mainly helps maintain humidity; this species rarely uses it.

- 72–82°F (22–28°C)
- Ideal range: 75–80°F
Humidity
- 65–80%
- Keep a water dish available at all times
- Allow the enclosure to dry slightly between mistings
- Good ventilation is more important than constantly wet conditions
