When your giant vinegaroon (Mastigoproctus giganteus) still has reddish pedipalps, it’s in a younger juvenile stage, so you want small, easy prey that won’t overwhelm it.

🦂 Best feeders at this stage:

  • Pinhead or small crickets
  • Small dubia roach nymphs
  • Flightless fruit flies (great for very small individuals)
  • Small mealworms (occasionally—don’t overdo it)

📏 Prey size rule:

  • Keep prey smaller than or equal to the width of its body
  • Avoid anything too large or aggressive

⏰ Feeding schedule:

  • 2–3 times per week for juveniles
  • Offer 1–3 prey items depending on size
  • Remove uneaten prey after ~24 hours

⚠️ Things to avoid:

  • Large crickets (can stress or injure it)
  • Superworms (too strong for small juveniles)
  • Wild-caught insects (risk of pesticides/parasites)

👍 Extra tip:

Those red pedipalps will darken as it matures, and you can gradually increase prey size as it grows.
